Karun Nair Comeback

Karun Nair also made a comeback with this Test series after showing his impressive performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and IPL season. He played his last match in 2017 for India. He scored 863 runs in the Ranji Trophy with an average of 57.53 and 779 runs in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, including 5 centuries.

Ruturaj Gaikwad also placed in India A squad

Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was injured with a hairline fracture to his elbow in the Indian Premier League (IPL) season 2025, has also taken place in the team for the three matches. But this time, he has lost the captaincy to Abhimanyu Easwaran. And he has been declared fit for the next month’s England series.

Featuring Youngsters in India A squad

The squad features promising youngsters Nitish Kumar Reddy and Harshit Rana, who caught attention during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and also marks the return of Ishan Kishan after extended periods away from the national setup.

All-rounder Shardul Thakur, who played in India’s tour of England in 2022 and South Africa tour in 2023, has also been set in the India A team.

Dhruv Jurel, the wicket-keeper batsman, also will help to lead Abhimanyu Easwaran as a vice-captain. Yashasvi Jaiswal has been also in good form which we saw in the ongoing IPL season. Sarfaraz Khan is also a hot prospect in the England tour.

The retirement of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from Test Cricket opens up at least two spots in the top order of the Indian Test team. Maybe Karun Nair has been considering replacing Virat Kohli and will set to bat at number 4 position.
